The herd was originally established as the Loch Awe herd in 1984 at Torran farm in Argyll. The original stock consisted of a number of Northern Dairy Shorthorns and some foundation stock bought from the famous Balmyle herd. The first stock bull was a Mandalong Super Elephant son bred at Uppermill. The herd moved to Lanarkshire in 1989 when 20 further cows were bought from Balmyle. No females have been introduced to the herd in the last seventeen years. Notable sires include the following.

Uppermill Rio. A white polled son of Balmyle Warpath

Banner Instant Royal. Imported from Canada by Uppermill

Glenisla Jacobite. A son of Diamond Xerxes out of an Egmont Exuberant daughter. A real herd builder.

Sutherland Bundaberg ET. Semen imported from the USA from David Ragsdale. Out of an Australian cow, Marellan Irish Isobel 38th, this homozygous polled bull has been an outstanding success breeding quite exceptional females

Groveland Puccini. Previously jointly owned with the Tofts herd.

Latterly a number of home bred bulls have been used to reinforce the most successful bloodlines on the farm. These have included D.North Star.L.A. Lovat. L.A.. Prince of Darkness. D Troubadour. D. Sutherland. D. Storm. D. Wrangler. D. Wolfstone and D. Yorkie.
